Gimbel is merely 19 years old but that didn't stop him from winning 2.2 million for first place in the Bahamas. Barry Shulman, Cardplayer publisher, continued his strong run coming in third and winning another million. AMIR VAHEDI PASSED AWAY. Last week the iconic poker pro always seen with the stogey in mouth and smile holding in place died of complications with diabetes. Vahedi memorably etched his place in the poker world at Chris Moneymaker's epic final table at the World Series of Poker. You will be missed Amir. WSOP TWEAKS RULES. Okay, maybe it's just us that can't disseminate information in a top ten format. They are 1st and 3rd in chips. This leader board is star studded with Anette Obrestad the gooey Nordic marshmallow between the Fish-Graham... smore? (Fish smores--ugh). Paul Wasicka, little known pro Phil Ivey (a guy we have a feeling you'll be hearing a lot about soon), Shane Schleger, and Robert Mizrachi are right on their heels. Vanessa Ruosso, a Florida girl is 10th in chips. Chad Batista and Glen Chorny are no slouches either. MORE PCA GOODNESS GRACIOUS. This tournament which is definitely on the cusp of becoming a "major" if not already there had a paltry 1,529 players. First place will earn more than $3 million dollars. So there is a long way to go as 386 players survived Day1A and 498 players made it through Day 1B, meaning... a lot of players will be back for day 2. Pokerstars also announced this was one of the stops on their new North American Poker Tour, with a Venetian Deep Stack and a Foxwoods tournament to follow. Remember when PartyPoker bought the WPT? Apparently the NAPT is Pokerstars rebuttal. BTW, PartyPoker is also rumored to be in talks of merging with bwin. Speaking of bwin check out their new Mad Tilt tournaments here. What's the cure for tilt? Apparently an all-in fest with others on tilt... not a bad concept. JONATHAN LITTLE TO HOST CHARITY POKER TOURNAMENT IN PENSACOLA. Sounds like a potentially great event. WORLD SERIES OF POKER DECADE IN REVIEW: This was poker's biggest decade, a 10 year span where ESPN mainstreamed the game, made it cool to be good at math and wear sunglasses indoors (not attempted since an ill fated Head of the Class episode in the 80s), and infiltrated everyday life with an aboundance of poker cliches that had even George Will talking about pot odds and going all in. At some point or another just about every B-List star attached themselves to the fad with Paris Hilton, superman himself Dean Cain, Pamela Anderson all sniffing around the game. Jennifer Tilly even won a bracelet. We have Chris Moneymaker to thank for every TV show doing a poker episode in boring, predictable unfunny fashion, but he also kickstarted an industry. Arenas, who is one of the most unique NBA stars, has admitted to playing online poker during halftimes of his games. On Christmas Eve, apparently, he was challenged by teammate Javaris Crittendon to make good on a gambling debt. Then they both pulled guns on each other. The Tiger Woods of poker will not be taking a three iron to his
face or to his Escalade for infidelity because
he's not married any more.
Ivey, who makes a PHIL IVEY CHOPPING UP LOTS OF ONLINE WINNINGS WITH FORMER WIFE. The divorce settlement probably took into account, Ivey's deep Main Event run and that Ivey finished second to Patrik Antonius for most money won in online poker cash games in '09. Ivey won over 6 million on Full Tilt, Antonius over 9 million including a 1.35 million dollar hand vs. Isildur1. Brian Hastings who smoked Isildur1 for most of the anonymous players recent windfall finished third up 4.7 million. Gus Hansen's loss of 5.7 million made the Great Dane the Great Donator for the year. Tom Dwan durrrr-ed off 4.34 million. If not for a December where he won 2 million he would have been the biggest loser. The mercurial Isildur1, who is off somewhere on a European poker site rebuilding his online poker bankroll, ended up being the fifth biggest loser down 2.2 million. |

ALL ALLEN KESSLER WANTED FOR CHRISTMAS WAS A STRUCTURE HE COULD TAME. The chainsaw did just that at the the Bayou Challenge Main Event, however, when he finally negotiated his chopping buzzsaw through the competition and collected the title. There was some collective head-scratching by the players and observers there--why hasn't Kessler won more tournaments? Anyway, the Chainsaw is your Bayou Challenge Main Event Winner. And, sorry we are not sure if Kessler celebrates Christmas or not, but we are fairly certain if somebody was offering good structures he'd take them no matter the occasion. Speaking of chopping the competition the seniors did an 8 way chop. 8 way chop? Trish Marks, of Covington LA, repeated as the ladies champion. She is the first player to repeat and defend any title at the Bayou Challenge. The seniors negotiated an 8 way chop? GCP Blogger Monkey went out in 8th in the Main Event. CarWash Schneider 5th, Jim McBride of Slidell LA 4th (we do not think 62 year old retiree McBride was one of the Internet players Monkey was talking about in his blog). CHALLENGE UPDATE 12.19.09 LOADED FINAL TABLE AT 1K TOURNAMENT... JOHN DOLAN'S SECOND TOURNAMENT VICTORY IS ONE TO REMEMBER. Besides winning 31.8k Dolan attacked a stack who's who on the Gulf Coast at his final table (several are on WHO'S WHO and most of the rest should be). The roster included four former WSOP Circuit Event Gold Ring Winners: Kai Landry, one of our favorite GCP bloggers, Walter Chambers who earned some valuable TV time winning his ring, Tyler Smith (GCP Magazine cover boy) and TK Myles. Add in Kenny Milam, Barron Whipple, and it was a stacked table with some of the Coast's best players. Blogger Will Souther aka Monkey just missed joining the final table party but added another cash to his resume. John Dolan fended off those guys as well as Pascal "Frenchy" Boutineau and Kent "Bobby" Buckingham who are both Texans nabbing their second cash of the Challenge. Dolan, a Bonita Springs, FL native is a 23 year old poker pro with an outstanding online and burgeoning live success rate. St. Rose, LA n CAPTAIN RON HOPE SINKS ON THE BUBBLE OF PLO WITH REBUYS CHAMPIONSHIP. Captain Ron is known for taking his passengers to the best fishing nooks on the coast and scooping record hauls, this time the river scooped him when his nut flush got run down by a full house. Captain Ron has been showing incredible improvement since focusing on his hobby of poker and is now a force to be reckoned on the tournament scene. Daniel Holmes, a student from Lafayette, LA finished in 5th place. Andrew Becker, of Chalmette, LA, will be seeing 8s in his sleep, as he ran into four of kind when he bowed out in third place. Jared Ingles, from Baton Rouge, LA, who makes his living playing poker finished second for almost 7k. MIKE SILVAS WINS EVENT 7 ($300 +$40 NLHE). Silvas an MBA student from ULL won the longest ever Challenge Heads-Up match. Other locals cashing include D.K. Flanagan from Nine Mile Point, LA (5th), David Lee from NOLA (6th), Chris Chevalier from Shreveport (8th), and Rusty Bodin from NOLA (9th). Two Houstonians Pascal "Frenchy Boutineau (7th) and Ruven Riveras (2nd for almost 7k) also made the final table. CAPTAIN TOM AND WALTER CHAMBERS COME UP JUST SHORT. Walter Chambers won the first WSOP circuit event in New Orleans but the Baton Rouge native couldn't take down the PLO Championship with his day ending in 7th place. Captain Tom Franklin, a WSOP bracelet winner, from Gulfport, MS, went out in 4th place. Mendel Lee, and Jeff Bennett, from the New Orleans area fell in 8th and 9th place. TRIPP DONALDSON GETS CREDIT FOR THE VICTORY. After a chop, the poker pro from Baton Rouge LA pocketed 7.8k. IT FELT LIKE THE HARRAHS WEEKLY. Locals dominated the final table in event one of The Bayou Poker Challenge. Kenny Milam made his semi-regular appearance at the final table. Unfortunately, the Trucker's motto "I'm not here for a long time but I am here for a good time," applied as Kenny went out in 9th. Detective Bruce Little's, a New Orleans police officer, long arm of the law got snapped off when he got beat down by the Royal Flush Gang. Jesus Cabrera, went out in 7th place. Mario Estrada from Laredo, TX went easy on the gas and manage to shift his short starting stack into a 6th place finish. John Sutton from Destin, FL went out 5th. Sid Webb, another Harrahs regular was fourth. Then the remainder chopped. Justin Jones from Rockdale, TX, Shane Lewis, like Sid Webb, also from Baton Rouge, and Santiago Prats, from Mandeville, LA split up the winnings. Prats (pictured) got credit for the victory. Prats is a familiar site in the poker room in New Orleans, swigging his Hennessy and always having a good time. |

That being said, with satellites all day today, a mega at 6pm and a $175 +$25 at 9pm there are a lot events to ease you into the series. Tomorrow's nooner a $200 + $30 could be a BIG event. Last time they had a buy-in that small we think they set a record for participants. Harrahs Atlantic City has been packing in the players, so let's see if the Gulf Coast can match up especially with the great structures. A highroller getting banned for bad behavior is hard to do especially when he has deep pockets and reckless self-restraint. WORLD POKER NEWS 12.04.09 JASON MERCIER MAKES ESPN'S TOP 10 LIST OF WORLD'S GREATEST POKER PLAYERS. Mercier, a Florida native, had a paltry 9 final tables this year and won enough cash to build a house out of dollar chips. Clearly this show which airs on FSN was part of the rationale for Sebok accepting the UB deal. Bringing along his friends from PokerRoad is a good thing, and might be why some of them changed their aggressive stances toward UB. WORLD SERIES OF POKER UPDATE 11.11.09
JOE CADA IS THE NEW WORLD SERIES OF POKER MAIN EVENT CHAMPION. The Kid (clever nickname for the youngest champion ever) bested Darvin Moon in heads up action. While Moon was supposedly dozing off during three handed play and simply shoving preflop, the wily "bumpkin" actually gave the kid a battle when it got to one-on-one. Chip deficit be damned, Moon flipped the script and had the kid on the ropes. One huge call with second pair against Moon's draw that never materialized and the lead was Cada's again, and the kid was minutes away from the World Championship. Moon, who was caught on tape lying to his wife about one of his hands (hey, maybe his opponents friends were within earshot) was a confounding opponent for the online pro. By the way, Phil Ivey went out 7th. The telecast showed one hand where he played probably a bit too cautiously when Antoine Saout popped his preflop raise back with pocket 7s. Ivey laid down pocket Jacks from under the gun. What the telecast didn't really show was the Frenchman barely played a hand at the start of the final table. Many observers rated Saout and Eric Buchman the best two players throughout the final table. Cada and Moon both showed why sometimes in poker it is better to be lucky than good getting their money in bad, time and time again, and coming back to win. Cada at one point dropped to 2 million in chips, the shortest anybody at the final table got without being eliminated, and battled all the way back to the bracelet. WIDE WORLD OF POKER UPDATE 11.10.09 NEW WORLD SERIES OF POKER CHAMPION. The episode airs tonight so no spoilers. Some generic factoids, the winner already a millionaire, is now a millionaire many times over. The winner pocketed over 8 million and second got over 5 million so there are no losers. Course everybody that made the final nine already received over a million dollars (the money that ninth place was guaranteed). Harrahs pocketed who knows how much. This is the first WSOP Main Event bracelet for the winner. The winner ran better than any other player. Norman Chad will reference one of his divorces in his telecast. The winner was neither a woman nor a South African hermaphrodite marathon runner. It is not known if the winner was wearing woman's underpants. UNDERPA The rumor that Seidel is the missing chromosomal link between Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld is unconfirmed. Also on the show, poker players Ben Affleck (another cameo and maybe his best acting performance ever--no speaking parts) and Cheryl Hines. Can we please have a cameo of Larry David at next year's world series at his curmudgeonly best? Maybe put him on Lisandro's left during the antes stage or in between the Mouth and Humberto Brenes. You know what's strange about Eric Seidel, somebody started calling him the crown prince of poker, ironically, and then the guy, ironically, became funny. Lesson learned do not mess with New York hipsters and irony. In retrospect it all makes sense. Seidel with his hat askew in his world series moment with Johnny Chan wasn't an awkward dresser he was just preemptively making ironic fun at the flood of douchebags that were about to invade the sport. One of the GCP partners was listening to the radio cast of the final table, and you'd think the action would be slow in that format but with a rotating cast of every single TV pro you've ever seen it was actually quite interesting. One of the partners has been playing all week at the IP, and the other is on the cusp of welcoming a new addition to his family. Good luck with it Gene D. We'll have some updates about some notable cashes like Dan Walsh winning a second chance tournament, Keith "The Angle" going deep again, and plenty of Gulf Coasters like Kenny Milan (senior event winner) representing. IP CLASSIC EVENTS FOR THIS WEEKEND. Want to play a main event? Today there are some megas and tomorrow is an all day affair to get into the Main Event. Two freerolls offering the winner a 10k seat to the WSOP main event plus the first freeroll is offering a slew of mega satellite seats. Course to get into the freerolls you had to final table an event or for the second one, win one outright. Still, with all the mega action all day the championship event should have a solid turnout.
THE NOVEMBER NINE IS SO NEAR WE CAN TASTE IT. One channel doing some promoting is ESPN with a cover story on their magazine of Phil Ivey and a behind the scenes E60 story on his life. If somehow you missed this video... shame on you. Here's a link. However, outside of ESPN arguably doing about the least amount possible to promote their own programming in the ramp up to the biggest final table in years (Ivey's presence alone insures that), there has been spotty mainstream media coverage. CNBC of all places, with NBC a friend to poker, had a piece recently, which you can see here on Pokerati. STEVE BEGLEITER NOVEMBER NINER WITH GULF COAST CONNECTION. Want a coach for the ultimate sit 'n go, only need to fade eight people to be the world champion, what's a former Bears Sterns exec to do but hire the sit 'n go king, GCP's own Jonathan Little. Wicked Chops is reporting it so it must be true. Jonathan where was the memo? Actually, Gary Wise may have been the first to report it, and his source is Phil Hellmuth. He has a great write up of the November Nine: here. Granted Begleiter might have come off as one of the less likable guys in the ESPN telecasts but now we may have to pull for him. Norman Chad obviously isn't going to let any Wall Streeter have an easy go when he's a ready made villain and Begs has done little to endear himself to the viewer by reminding Ivey of the famous Moneymaker suck-out and nearly punching a guy for bluffing him, but there is no denying this is a guy who isn't afraid to mix it up and with the right amount of luck has to be one of the favorites to win it. |

WOULD PHIL IVEY STILL BE FAVORED IF HE HAD NO CHIPS? According to the popular blog Poker King who is posting the results of the WSOP.com poll Phil Ivey despite being a chip dwarf is the overwhelming favorite to win this years main event. Ivey has 78.05% of the votes, the next closet is overwhelming chip leader and Saints hat wearer Darvin Moon who was but 6.57% of the votes. Kevin Schaffel in most peoples minds has barely a better shot than you do to win it at 0.75%. Remember you aren't sitting at the final table, well, all but nine of our readers aren't sitting at the final table ( :) ), To say the same thing in an only slightly different way Joan Rivers is barely a dog to the guy and she hates poker players. Schaffel can console himself with the fact Steven Begleiter is barely a bigger favorite with 1.1% of the vote. IP RESULTS COMING. Our bad, turns out we had them in our inbox all along. WORLD BEST PLAYERS POKER UPDATE 10.29.09 PHIL IVEY MUCKS WINNING HAND. If you've ever read the 2+2 forums you'd think Phil turned straights in to flushes as needed, rivered quads with a twitch of his nose, and basically walked on water. Turns out the guy is human. On last nights WSOP telecast he mucked the winning hand, a pair of 8s when he had a spade in it giving him a flush. This will be known as the year that every university has the mascot of the Ragin' Cajuns (replacing the Demon Deacons in Norman Chad's paint by numbers heavily repeat the same joke style of broadcasting) and also the year, Phil Ivey mucked the winning hand... even if he wins the Main Event. Maybe this will be great for poker and every lunchbox that thought they could pull a Moneymaker years ago, who then tried and failed and never came back, will try again as even the world's best can make the same boneheaded plays they make in their home games. The river gave his opponent top pair of aces but also put four spades on board. His opponent had none and Phil mucked without even rechecking to see if he had a spade. Clearly he didn't even process the four spades on board. We know he was in Bobby's Room every night after the Main Event action stopped and maybe at some point his lack of sleep had to catch up to him. On the other hand he looked alert all episode. This was his worst day in the main event when his chip stack took a nose dive. If this brain fart, was any indication even the great Phil Ivey wasn't just running bad he was also not playing his best. Shockingly, the internet has not cracked in half with the news but there is still time for that to happen. Here's the video (go to five minute mark).
TOMMY VEDES WINS FESTA AL LAGO. The party at the Lake was a party for Vedes who won 1.2 million for his trouble. He bested Jason Lavallee in heads up play. Incidentally in the above video you can also see Vedes shove on James Akenhead with AQ preflop and Akenhead call the all-in with QQ. GULF COASTER JASON MERCIER THE ANONYMOUS STUD.
PETER EASTGATE COMES IN SECOND TO SCANDI-SOUNDING AMERICAN IN EPT MAIN EVENT. Two years ago if you asked most people who was the American and who was the Dane when Peter Eastgate battled Aaron Gustavson in heads up play most would give you the wrong answer. Phil Hellmuth would say he didn't care one can't spell poker and the other is an idiot from Northern Europe. And seriously, how many times is Hellmuth going to use that insult the first time was funny but the 20th time whatever. Anyway, Eastgate fell to Gustavson but padded his career earnings with a large second place score. No word how many times he made the Eastgate face. For tournament wrap-up go to PokerNews. WORLD WIDE POKER UPDATE 10/06/09 SHANNON SHORR SOURCE IN NEW YORK TIMES STORY. Okay maybe it's more a blog than a story, but it's still under the NY Times banner. Tom "Durrrr" Dwan and Patrik Antonius had another session of the Durrrr Challenge recently. They played 400 hands and Durrrr booked a winner taking him back in front overall. And speaking of UB, now this interesting tidbit, Phil Hellmuth on a radio show suggests the websites Pokerstars, FullTilt, and Ultimate Bet (maybe bwin?) might band together and create their own World Series of Poker and throws the gauntlet down at Harrahs. Pokerati has both stories here. There is a funny suggestion that Hellmuth might be unhappy that he wasn't comped a room. Hellmuth has also signed on to be November Niner Jeff Shulman's poker coach. DARRYL FISH GETS PUMPED UP IN CARDPLAYER. It appears Fish is getting some pub for his first place finish. What a wild couple of days for him as he went to railing Tyler Smith in his heads up battle for the GCPC Main Event title, and by railing we mean heckling his friend, to having all the railbirds he can handle in winning his first WCOOP event. Cardplayer does him right, right here. GENE D, THE MAN. At the same time, as he was tracking Tyler in the Main Event, GeneD played to the final three and negotiated a chop in the second chance tournament. Congrats to GeneD for wrapping up the GCPC in style. Wild Bill got a little wild and min-cashed two spots earlier in the same tournament. JAIME GOLD, GIRLIE MAN? Only a girlie man doesn't pay back his debts, and he may be the most sued main event champion ever. Considering Russ Hamilton has won the main event that's 1. Surprising and 2. Sure to change. Gold's main event winnings are once again up for debate in a court of law. GULF COAST CHAMPIONSHIP MAIN EV Tyler "Tydean" Smith, Gulf Coast Native, gives Chad Brown "Hell" at the Final Table of the Gulf Coast Poker Championship. Tyler made a great run and played well...but took home 2nd Place for a nice score of right at $125,000. Tyler had a nice rail rooting for him since he was the local favorite which included ...Matt "MattG1983" Graham...David Diaz...His girlfriend Ashley...Jacob "Nocko" Naquin..."The Honest Player" (GCP Blogger) and a host of other local who were sweating the Gulf Coast Poker star. The heads up match lasted several hours and Chad Brown really earned his 1st place finish as Tydean played tough...but Brown finally flops a straight to Tydeans straight draw to take down the young star. One of

CHAMPIONSHIP 09/14/09 GULF COAST CHAMPIONSHIP MAIN EVENT FINAL TABLE UPDATE: The Final Table is set with some local star power and one big name pro. Chad Brown, husband of Vanessa Ruosso, television and movie actor, poker commentator, and one hell of a poker player is back to one of his favorite haunts the final table. Brown is sitting on a little over 200k. Tim Bullard of Houston, TX unlike Day 1 Chip leader Mark Gallagher stayed afloat and stayed alive with 420k. Ron Romano of Acworth, GA is just under 350k. Local standout Tyler Smith, of Smithdale, MS is in a good spot and ready to snap off his opponents with a little over 300k. It's good day for all those fellas but they are still looking up at Ron Haveard of Pensacola, FL. Haveard (pictured left) has over 629k. David Diaz of Memphis, TN has 207k, and is playing steady as always. Aaron Rhodes of Slidell, LA is one of the relative short stacks with 113k. LEGENDS OF POKER VIDEO UPDATE 08/28/09
PRAHLAD FRIEDMAN SHOWS HE'S NOT JUST AN ANTE NARC. The talent-stricken ESPN rapper won the Legends of Poker tournament (though we have to say his rap was better than the Jeff Madsen fiasco aired on Tuesday). Friedman bested November Niner Kevin Schaffel in Heads-up play. Friedman doesn't sing the "I call with the Ace High" song, but he did just that and won the bracelet, over 1 million dollars, and entry into the 25k WPT Championship in April by doing so. Schaffel won half a million for second place. Decent write up here. Steve Begleiter also a November Niner, on break for the WSOP Main Event table, finished in ninth. Pokerpages suggest Jonathan Little was railing him as his new coach. Wonder if he'll blog about that soon or not. WHILE ON THE TOPIC OF POKER SONGS. overcame a big chip deficit literally turning a few lead based
Memphis area man, Chris Moneymaker, went out in third. The Chemist caught a flush to send Moneymaker's top pair to the rail (need to remember that sentence if Jennifer Tilly ever busts out... of a tournament). This high finish may refute Moneymaker's claim that he runs bad in tournaments, or rather the viewpoint some 2+2ers assigned to him after taking him a little too seriously after his WSOP 40k bubble bust out (read here). For the record we are Chris Moneymaker fans, and if 11 time bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth can bitch after every bust out Chris can bitch about bubbling the 40k. He, the movie Rounders, and lipstick cameras created an industry. We should be nothing but grateful to the guy. The other big name at the final table, Chad Brown, finished in 4th. Gaubert, a Thibodaux native (but not this Thibodaux man), won almost 193k plus a 10k seat for the Beau's main event and a trophy. As for the others: Hamontree 109k, Moneymaker 60k and Brown 48k. Thomas "Crusher" Creel of Monroe, LA ended up in 5th for 36k. Paris "Ya" Heard couldn't overcome his short stack and was first one out at the final table. 9th place paid Heard 12k. WORLD POKER OPEN UPDATE (08/11/09) MONEYMAKER MAJOR CHIPLEADER AT WORLD POKER OPEN. The final table is set with Moneymaker sitting on more than a million in chips. Chad Brown has 433k for second biggest stack. Thomas "Crusher" Creel of Monroe, LA has 145,500. Jeremy "The Chemist" Gaubert who had a nice online weekend squeaked in with 107k. The Thibodaux native is on a bit of heater. Look for him in the Cardplayer mag with Jeffery Lisandro on front. If Gaubert squeaked in Paris Heard of Praire, MS barely whispered his way in with 26k. Michael "Carwash" Schneider of Covington, GA went out in 12th place. Ryan Cox, a Saints fan from New Orleans, went out 11th. Jennifer Parrish of Alma, Alabama was the last woman standing. Ray Hall of Bossier, LA went out in 18th place just barely cashing. Nicknamed Choo-Choo he lost steam when he missed with K9 all-in preflop against 99. Kenny Milam, of New Orleans, went busto before the money when Moneymaker's j10 showed him what home felt advantage is all about busting his KK after Kenny got it all in pre-flop. FACE THE ACE CAN'T SAVE FACE. For two weeks in a row Face the Ace finished dead last in the ratings for its time slot. This show is as dead as an extra from the Sopranos, and it's hosted by one too. Steve Schirripa who manages to make heads up poker chatter more engrossing then his hosting can soon be seen not hosting a Poker show. Somehow this show lost viewers from the previous week. Chad Brown is in the group behind with 141,900. Vanessa Rousso with 46,200 and Chris Moneymaker with 61,200 advanced to day 2. Among those who didn't make the final 43 are early extit-ers Shaun Deeb, Shoheil "The Maniac" Shamseddin, and Chris Bell. The winner will pocket $192,000. Besting Faraz Jaka in heads up play, Gomes has a healthy resume that just got better. Gulf Coaster, Justin Smith finished third for a savory $464,870. BETH SHAK PITCHING A REALITY POKER SHOW? In this article the "sexy" "professional" poker player informs her students that women are better poker players than men and guys who wear sunglasses are cowards and losers. You are probably wondering who Beth Shak is? You are not alone. Shak (pictured above) is no relation to local poker play LoveShack Dave. Well, as a means of introduction Shak is all "class" in this youtube clip. Enjoy her "acting" at the beginning where she cleverly disguises the strength of her hand (pocket aces) by shrewdly feigning confusion and then shrugging and going all in. WSOP MAIN EVENT WEEKEND IN REVIEW UPDATE (07/13/09)
IT'S IVY'S WORLD

Unfortunately for ESPN, the poker brat Phil Hellmuth's deep run ended near the money bubble and the field lost the poker brat. Noted cousin of Padraig Harrington and author, Action Dan, was another Main Event champion eliminated. The field didn't lose Phil Ivy, who along with Jeffrey Lisandro, Vitaly Lunkin, and Villie Wahlbeck has owned this years Series. As he is the last of those names still standing, he can perhaps claim this world series as solely his. A bracelet in the Main Event (which would be his first main event final table) might just seal the deal.

ended with Peter Eastgate is hanging around in his bid to repeat. He sits right in the middle of the pack in 82nd place. Joe Hachem is also passing the sugar and scooping the pots with 185 players left. UPDA (07/07/09) "SORRY, SORRY" WSOP COMMISH TELLS PLAYERS THAT CAN'T BUY INTO MAIN EVENT. Day One D was overbooked. Hundreds of players couldn't buy in, including TJ Cloutier, Mike Sexton, and Brandon Adams. Whoops! After meager sales the first two days Day One C and One D had more than the Rio could hold. UPDATE (07/05/09) PHIL HELLMUTH FINALLY ARRIVES...WITHOUT HIS CHARIOT: It seems that him cruising in on a Ancient Roman Chariot were nixed, probably because of insurance reasons (Racecar Episode). He did show up in Grandiose style though being carried in by a pack of roman soldiers. (07/02/09) A DAY OF DAVIDS DAVID HALPERN, NEW ORLEANS ATTORNEY, SETTLES FOR WINNING BRACELET. Halpern couldn't find a cash game he wanted to play, so took a shot in a tournament. He bested another GCP notable Allie Prescott, Chad Brown and well known tournament director Matt Savage. William Kohler was the last to fall in heads up action, which netted Halpern 159k. Halpern, earlier cashed at this years WSOP (23rd in Event 5 Pot Limit Omaha). He took a flier on the 1,500 seven card stud eight or better event and won it. DAVID BACH SURVIVES MARATHON FINAL TABLE AND WINS HORSE CHAMPIONSHIP. John Hanson comes in second. On Euro-heaters Lunkin and Wahlbeck couldn't make history with a victory. Erik123 went out third. The poker media is calling him EuroDurrrr, but Erik was first so we'll abstain. Clown prince of poker Eric Seidel killed but his comedy met an early exit. Take our word for it there was a lot of guffaws and har-har-hars before he hit the rail. Hanson won $789,199 for second while David Bach got fitted for the gaudy bracelet, got to lift the Chip Reese trophy and pocketed $1,276,802. Bach is the first person to win the 50k Horse event without a big name. |

MATT "MATTG1983" GRAHAM SNAPS OFF HIS 2ND BRACELET...FIRST FOR 2009 New Orleans native and UB pro Matt "Mattg1983" Graham gets some more wrist hardware in the 10kPLO World Championship in Event #40. He was heads up with another bracelet winner going for number 2 in 2009... Vitaly Lunkin...and he also had to fade the likes of Josh Arieh, Nenad Medic and Barry Greenstein on the final day. Lunkin has the most prized bracelet of them all though as he won the 40k this year. I got a text from one of Matt's buddys when it happened saying, "MattG just won another bracelet...in a game he doesn't even play"...now that pretty strong. Hopefully, this wont be his last one of 2009, Now we need some other Gulf Coasters to bring home some "Bling". |

But first things first, we'd like to welcome Jonathan Little to the fold. Unless you've lived under a rock, you'll know he's one of the coast's most decorated players. He's but 24 and already amassed over 4 million dollars in winnings. The Pensacola born poker pro's young success already includes a WPT Player of the Year award. POKER AND THE INTERNET UPDATE (06/20/09)
DURRR CHALLENGE NOT OVER!
Durrrr dropped 250k even further behind Patrick Antonius, in a recent session, before going on a heater. Dwan finished the day up $370k. Nearly every late pot went Durrrr's way in the 910 hand session. To follow things up Durrrr waxed Patrick yet again the next day to surge into a $726,546 lead overall. Almost one month into the challenge, they have played a little over 40% of the 50,000 hands they agreed to play. NEW BLOGGER THIS WEEKEND. Little tease for you: he's from the Gulf Coast and is probably one of the best young pros out there. Should we give you a clue? If there was any justice in this word we would, but maybe we won't. Look for him in the next couple of days . Also, I advise you to take a gander at Kai Landry's new post on his sexy poker blog to the right: YOU'RE ENTERING A WORLD OF PAIN, very well written, as usual and some great pics too. POKERSTARS TAKES IT IN THE GUT. Stars is hardest hit by the asset freeze and Tilt and Cake Poker have benefited a bit by the company's slow response time probably created by their huge player base. Tilt quickly found new processors and Cake was apparently unaffected. As a result both increased traffic by 3%. Stars lost 7% of their traffic. For more information go here. WSOP UPDATE (06/19/09) GREG 'FBT' MUELLER BESTS CHAD BROWN AND DANIEL ALAEI TO WIN THE 10k WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP LIMIT HOLD'EM EVENT. Full Blown Tilt managed to control himself long enough to win 460k. A former hockey player Greg won on a day the Stanley Cup visited the WSOP. Pokerati is reporting the Cup was inspiration for FBT's victory after two previous second place finishes in his bracelet quest. The Stanley Cup is pictured below with Hayden Panettiere who obviously doesn't watch Christmas movies on TBS.
Chad Brown, who after a couple of stellar years, was known just for marrying Vanessa Ruosso this year but made himself relevant again by taking third. Likely it is back to being a dual income couple again. Alaei who just won a bracelet almost matched Ivey's and Brock Parker's two wins this year but came short in 5th place. NHL WSOP MEET, PUBLIC YAWNS. That's why Lord Stanley's Cup was visiting. In a story completely passed over by the mainstream media, for obvious reasons, we wonder who benefits? Who gets the bump? Sure it's kind of cool that the World Series of Poker welcomed the NHL to the RIO in a series of photo ops and cross promotion but it's kinda like two trees falling into each other in a forest and nobody hears it. Complete nonevent or in other terms would be kind of like Vanilla Ice doing a duet with MC Hammer this year.
In the photo above Kristen Bell spots a piece of Hayden Panettiere's tongue. Meanwhile, if that dude is her boyfriend it proves the theory no matter how beautiful or "hot" the girl some dude is bored of her. Neither of these Stanley Cup photos is at the WSOP. It might have merited some media attention if Hayden or Bell were there with the trophy but they weren't. Unfortunately, it was Gary Bettman, who is almost as riveting an interview as Patrick Antonius, and a trophy which is basically a glorified punch bowl. What's next the MLS visits the WSOP? KEITH EZYKOWICH CASHES IN $1500 HORSE EVENT. Friend of GCP.NET and Monkey's roommate in Vegas, Keith placed 55th in the huge field. You'll remember Keith recently won the $300 Pot Limit Omaha High/Low Tournament at the circuit event in New Orleans. Keith excels at all disciplines of poker having also final tabled a Seven Card Stud event (N.O. circuit event 07) and cashed at the IP Classic in No Limit Hold 'Em. multiple bracelet winners per World Series. FBT bagged his
second. Recently, Jeff Lisandro who looks like a bagman
nicked his third. Phil Ivy and Brock Parker also have two
this year. Most people are saying the repeats refute it's
all luck argument.

as he needs to fade the likes of Eugene Todd "Bro", Isaac Haxton,

"Durrr" Dwan had a monster session to recapture the challenge
lead. Maya Geller Antonius (pictured) recently revealed
back problems and an illness have kept Patrick at home and
missing most of the WSOP. That's good news for Durrrr who
has been picking on the sickly Scandi and logging a lot of hours
in the challenge.
The
free texas hold'em games on the site have inspired some intrepid
to profit off the game and users may be skirting US Gaming law.
Basically, winners of the game are selling their virtual (and
worthless chips) for real money. Course with the vagueness
of UIGAE federal laws this is an extreme example of people
covering their asses over a far more derivative application of
the standards. Besides playing poker online is legal,
