Shorr ended
the day with 166k. Shawn Buchanan, Randy Dorfman, David
Williams, Sam Trickett
and Phil Hellmuth are all in the top 20. Jason Mer 180 players started but the field as of this morning (the beginning of day two) has been pared down to 36 with 18 getting paid. Shorr relinquished his chip lead to Dimitry Motorov and now sits in 11th with 95k. Mercier is in the middle of the pack while Lisandro and Hellmuth had short days with quick eliminations. POKER HALL OF FAME NOMINATIONS: In alphabetical order: Annie Duke, Barry Greenstein, Jennifer Harman (-Traniello), Linda Johnson, John Juanda, Marcel Luske, Jack McClelland, Tom McEvoy, Scotty Nguyen, Huckleberry Seed. Read here for more on the voting process and the nominations. SAINTSWIN: 360 ANALYSIS OF THE NEW ORLEANS SAINTS: GCP blogger Reid G, has been blogging about the Saints. It's a good read and if you are a fan of football you will probably enjoy his thought provoking posts. Follow the column to the right, all season long and maybe in the spring he'll get back to his poker blog. FLORIDA'S CASINOS THAT AREN'T (?) CASINOS: Internet cafes are popping up all over the Seminole state, and their legality may be as dubious, as payment processors moving money from online poker sites. These "Cafes" aren't used for checking emails, shopping on eBay, or getting viruses from downloading porn, rather they are used almost exclusively for gambling. The New York Times did an article about the crime these shops are attracting and the efforts to crack down on these new casinos. |

Full Tilt
Poker and Groupe Bernard Tapie Sign Acquisition Agreement FULL TILT LICENSE REVOKED: 09.29.11 ALDERNEY GAMBLING CONTROL COMMISSION TRIES TO SHOW A VENEER OF CONTROL:
In a move to
show the AGCC has some teeth, they have revoked Full Tilt's
license. Here is the press release, and here is the detailed
bad news. What this means for the looming deal with the
French backers is anyone's guess. Go here for that eye-opening read and try and figure out if that number just gets bigger with today's action. Interesting details, Full Tilt didn't show at the hearing, and they are open to reactivation of the license under new ownership. COASTAL TOURNAMENT POKER NEWS 09.29.11 TWO FRIENDS OF GCP CHOP HARRAHS NEW ORLEANS WEEKLY:
In between, another GCP owner chopped a tournament at the Beau Rivage. This week it was Ron Hope's turn as he also cruised to the final table and a three way chop with him getting the best of it. That's Captain Ron on the left. Melvin, Nick and the staff at Harrahs have gotten this tournament turned into a well oiled machine. Take a stab at it Saturday at 11am if you haven't yet. BEAU RIVAGE ANNOUNCES TENTATIVE SCHEDULE FOR JANUARY SOUTHERN POKER MILLIONS: They are guaranteeing a million in their 5k main event and 200k in their $340 kick off event. Both tournaments have a single re-entry and two starting day 1s. This series will go from January 6th to January 25th. Lots of options. Plenty of chips with most events giving 10k or 12k, and as the tournaments go on, the levels get longer. Here's the first half of the schedule:

POKER NEWS
09.26.11 MATT GIANNETTI NOVEMBER NINER WINS WPT MALTA EVENT: Must have been comforting to know that he'll win more just by out lasting one player in November than he did in winning the enitre tournament in Malta (273k). Actually we didn't fact check that, he might have to beat two players, but he doesn't have to do a whole lot of work. Giannetti beat Ceclia Pescaglini heads up to win the gaudy trophy. FRENCH TILT POKER: Supposedly the French still want to buy Full Tilt Poker and haven't noticed the nuclear waste that comes with the brand. Anybody that has spent a hot summer day in France knows that ignoring a stink is no big deal for your average Frenchman. Vive La Full Tilt. Should this deal ever close your chances of getting your money back will increase an insignificant amount.
HOANG
HO'S HIGH HAND WINS 2011
APP
LEAGUE: Hoang bested defending Acadiana Poker
champion Dustin Norris in heads up play. Ho won the trophy,
the cash, and the bragging rights on the final hand by
calling Norris' blind shove with pocket Jacks. They held.
Congrats to Hoang. |

NICHOLSON CIRCUIT CHAMPION: Talented Biloxi pro David Nicholson, who has been a fixture on the tournament scene the last three years earned his first ring, after taking down the Main Event. Nicholson won $148,590 and qualified for the WSOP Circuit National Championship. Nicholson clinched it on the final hand when his AK maintained its advantage vs. the AQ of second place David Olson of Addison, TX. Olson won 91k for his consolation price. Third place, Chris Gamboa of Houston, TX won 67k, and also accumulated enough points to win the all around title which grants him a seat in the WSOP National Championship too. Clay Henry, a contractor from LA, and Kenny Milam, a La Place, LA native also made the final table. Milam finished in tenth for 11k and Henry in seventh for 22k. SLIMEY POKER NEWS 09.19.11
By the way, whoever the dude is that is known as Admo on the 2 + 2 forums all you up and coming scammers, grifters, conmen and sleazeballs you probably don't want to get on his bad side or steal money from him... or get his check lost in the mail, whatever you want to call it as he might just make an unflattering website about you. And if you are wondering how Rainey landed a girl like that... he probably told her to look up his stats online and that he goes by "Phil Ivey" in the poker world. REGISTERED SEX OFFENDER FEELS EPIC POKER'S WRATH: Michael DiVita is a registered sex offender and therefore in violation of Epic Poker's code of conduct. As he nonchalantly told Pokernews "Sure I'm a sex offender, so what, let's move on." Sure, so what... However, as farcical as that sounds, he wasn't trying out to be a lifeguard at a pool in Disney World, the guy won a seat for a 20k buy-in poker tournament and they only gave him his entry fee back. We aren't going to comment on a guy who can't keep his hands to himself playing a game that requires doing exactly that, too much, because it seems like no matter which side you take in this "controversy" there are no winners. Epic (allegedly) arbitrarily threw their code of conduct around and borderline intimidated this guy into relinquishing his seat... but the dude is a sex offender, not only that he's one that addresses those transgressions as matter-of-factly as speeding one or two miles over the legal limit. COMING SOON LOCAL CASHES AT BOSSIER CITY'S CIRCUIT EVENT... WE GOT A LOT OF THEM TO GET TO YOU... |

POKER ENTERTAINMENT NEWS 09.14.11
JIM RICE A POKER PLAYING SURVIVOR 23 CONTESTANT: Rice also owns two Medicinal Marijuana shop (or dispensaries as they call them or drugs on the co'ner as others call them) in Colorado. Wicked Chops thinks he owns his enterprise with Paul Wasicka. Rice is on the right in the above photo. Hmmm... besides being way too self-assured in his profile video (and that' s putting it nicely... pray that he's own fellow unjustified ego-maniac Coach's team), we have to ask what's he got that Paul Wasicka wouldn't have had more of? Doesn't win in the looks department according to one better half, doesn't win in the poker accomplishments department according to any site that keeps track of those things, and probably doesn't win in the medicinal marijuana department--well, maybe schlubby enough to win in the late night munchies. PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE POKER ZINGER: Mitt Romney told Rick Perry it doesn't mean you are a good poker player if you are dealt four aces. In effect, saying the successes of Texas had less to do with Perry and more to do with the hand he was dealt. To which Rick replied "Mitt you were doing good until you starting talking about poker." Hmmm... makes you wonder how any of these candidates feel about poker. Obama famously played in a Congressional home game but has hardly been poker friendly since being elected. Most notably letting Eric Holder run wild on online poker. Seems Perry is talking a bit of big game, as you would expect a Texan to, hopefully, if elected as far as poker concerned he's not all hat and no cattle. ROUNDERS STOLEN FROM SCRIPT WRITER? Film School Rejects dishes on Hollywood's dirty secrets. One of them being the studios like to steal good script ideas. They suggest Rounders came about in exactly that fashion. Read here for more. |

POKER NEWS 09.10.11
MATT WAXMAN WINS IN EUROPE: Parkland, Florida native Matt Waxman became the first American to win a WPT event at the Grand Prix de Paris. Waxman beat Hugo "Les Mis" Lemaire to win 518k in Euros which we think is more than 518k in dollars. It's his third WPT cash. The win upped his lifetime winnings to almost 1.7 million. He's cashed 12 times in WSOP events and won the Harrah's Atlantic City Circuit event late last year. Congrats Matt! Another famous young poker player from Florida got his start crushing tournaments in Europe and if Waxman has half the career of Jason Mercier he'll have a good life. THIS WEEK'S POKER CHEATING SCANDAL: Yeah it involves a little more specific corner of the online poker universe, and obviously it's not Americans or Gulf Coasters playing but it is interesting to see how the scummy scammers tried to get away with it and were caught. 2+2 link for more, and by the way, cheater goes by the handle dooschcom.
